1510. Typography I. 3 hours (2;4). This course will teach students about typography's formal, plastic qualities. Topics covered will include : typographic anatomy and vocabulary, figure ground relationships, letterform drawing and rendering, character manipulation, typographic semiotics and the relationship existing between type and color. Course will be structured around lectures, demonstrations, extensive studio work and critiques. Traditional and digital techniques will be used over the course of the semester. This is an artifact based course. Prerequisite(s) : ART 1200, 1400, 1500. Student must be accepted into the communication design program through the Communication Design Entry Portfolio Review. Students are required to have completed Adobe Illustrator certification prior to the start of this class.
