This course is an introductory course of the developmental disability of mental retardation. The definition and characteristics of the learner with mental retardation is examined as well as the issues of normalization, individual rights, assessment, family issues and transition from school to community life. Field experience which can be used to meet Human Relations requirements (for Education majors) is a requirement of the course. Prerequisite: SPED 330.
