A study of the effects of radiation exposure on biological systems, typical medical exposure levels, methods for measuring and monitoring radiation, and methods for protecting personnel and patients from excessive exposure. Learning Outcomes: The student will describe the biophysical mechanisms of radiation damage and the somatic and genetic effects of radiation exposure on humans; state typical dose ranges for routine radiographic procedures; explain basic methods and instruments for radiation monitoring, detection and measurement; and apply appropriate radiation protection practices.
