This course will explore the techniques and methods of archaeology in the Mediterranean through an examination of major monuments, artifacts, and sites from Prehistory to the 4th century AD. Architecture, sculpture, wall painting, vase painting, and other art forms will be considered from Rome, Athens, Egypt, Pompeii, Crete, Mycenae and elsewhere. We will also consider the relationship of archaelolgy to other disciplines such as history, classical languages, and art history.
