Introduction to various styles of jazz from the 1940s to today. Beginning with the evolution of jazz into a chamber art form during the bebop movement of the 1940s and progressing chronologically, students will be introduced to major figures and styles of jazz through videos, recordings, readings and concerts. Includes study of the outside forces that helped shape the music and the musicians. Cross-listed at HUM 3318. Credit may not be earned for both.
