Introduction to modern techniques in the manipulation of genes, and their introduction and regulation in eukaryotic cells. Techniques include polymerase chain reaction, in vitro mutagenesis, and fluorescence microscopy. Laboratory work emphasizes the design and carrying out of student-designed protocols. Laboratory fee required: $30. 6 additional laboratory or activity hours per week.
