This course focuses on the psychological and mental health of peoples of African descent in the U.S. The treatment of peoples of African descent in research and theoretical literature will be critically analyzed, especially in relation to racial identity, self concept, strengths, resillience, and family dynamics. The impact of public policy, socio-cultural context, social class, gender, sexual orientation and ethnicity on psychological functioning is central to the course.
