A study of the major literary trends of this century in the Caribbean area (Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, and Cuba) seen in a general Latin-American sociocultural and political perspective. Representative works by Henriquez Urena, Llorens Torres, Pales Matos, Guillen, del Cabral, Bosch, Marques, Carpentier, Laguerre, Cabrera Infante, Gonzalez, Cesaire, Mir, Burgos, Rodriguez-Julia, etc. Offered every third semester. Prerequisite: ML3500 or permission of ML faculty.
