Literary works of the period are used to highlight the changes reshaping Europe in the early nineteenth century, the encounters between Europeans and Asians to come to terms with these encounters. Readings include Dickens' Hard Times, stories by Rudyard Kipling and Rabindranath Tagore, Botchan by Natsume Soseki. Offered each Fall.
