Languague plays a role in nearly every human activity and experience. This course will provide an introduction to ways in which psychology, educational theory, sociology, biology, and linguistics contribute to the understanding of the uniquely human features of language, as well as to what we share with other phonics, language acquisition, animal communication, and nonverbal sign systems Issues of gendered language, bilingualism, and dialects will also be discussed .
