Focuses on Abraham Joshua Heschel and Martin Luther King Jr., two religious intellectuals whose lives and works draw on this tradition to raise and address questions basic to any discussion of the role of religion in public life. Through readings of Obama and student-directed "hope projects," we will also focus on contemporary examples of what it means to both think and live in hope. Prerequisite: Introductory level course (SCTR 1-19, TESP 1-19, or RSOC 1-19).
