An exploration of the nature of political and religious authority; that is, the relationship between the individual, the state, and the divinein three different ancient civilizations. The primary texts for this investigation are the representative monuments of each culture: the pyramids of Egypt (particularly the Old Kingdom), the Temple of Solomon in Jerusalem in the united monarchy, and the Parthenon of 5th-century Athens.
