Description:
This course offers students essential knowledge and skills for teaching art in elementary school settings. The course provides an understanding of the visual arts, including the formal elements and principles of design, as well as art historical perspectives. Two current directions in teaching elementary school art will be explored. First, students will create cross-curricular teacher-directed art projects and will learn to plan art projects that advance their pupils literacy, science, and history learning objectives. Second, students will create art works informed by choice-based art instruction theories and will learn to direct student-centered art work.
