Description:
-
Sociology is a social science that studies human behavior at the group or societal level. It examines how people interact, how groups or societies differ and how the groups or societies people belong to affect human behavior. No matter how personal our experiences are, they are influenced by social forces, forces that arise from the society of which we are a part; they exist outside of the individual. In this course, students become familiar with basic concepts of sociology and develop their sociological imagination - the ability to see the interplay between biography and history, individual and society; the ability to understand the connections between public issues and private troubles. (Usually offered Fall and Spring semesters.) Meets SUNY General Education requirement for Social Sciences (S).
