Description:

Federal and State laws grant certain rights to students and protect their interests depending upon their age and needs. Specific rights are granted to the grade school student and high school student; different rights to the college and unversity student. These laws place strict obligations upon the student's school district and others involved with the education of the student. What is meant by a "least restrictive environment"? Is it necessary to have a plan for the student's education? Does a parent or guardian have a voice when the fate of the student is considered by the Committee? What can a parent or guardian do if he or she disagrees with the determination of the school district? What happens when the student moves beyond the school district and heads to college? These imprtant considerations and more will be discussed. (3 hours)
