The lead supervisor course consists of 32 hours of training with a minimum of 8 hours dedicated to hands on activities. The course includes background information on lead and it's health effects; Federal, State and local regulations; liability & insurance issues; risk assessment & inspection; development of & implementation of a lead abatement plan; lead hazard recognition; lead abatement activities & hazard reduction methods; restricted practices; interior duct abatement/cleanup; soil & exterior dust abatement; clearance methods and waste disposal methods. Students have to be able to wear a respirator and it is recommended that students bring copies of 29 CFR1910 & 1926 standards. Certified abatement supervisors may perform specific abatement activities, including oversight of abatement projects and preparation of the occupant protection plan and the abatement report. Qualifications for certification: 1) Pass an EPA-accredited abatement supervisor course. 2) Pass the EPA abatement supervisor certification exam. 3) Meet one of the following requirements: * One year of experience as a certified lead-based paint abatement worker, or * At least 2 years of experience in a related field.
