Topics covered in the 40 - Hour Class include: 1) Basic Electricity * Applications of Ohms Law and practice of reading it. * Examples of Voltage, Current and Resistance * K W hours and utility billing * 60 Hz power and sinous wave forms * Square waves; saw tooth waves and three-phase power * Theory of inductance/units and examples capacitance 2) Component Identification * Basic theory behind analog and digital electronics * Component handling from stockroom to assembly * Operation of diodes, zener diodes, tranistors, etc. * Transformers, set up, step down, isolatiion, mutual inductance, and turns ratio 3) Basic Solder Theory * Tin lead percentage and eutectic composition * Advantages of mechanical and corrosion protection * Melting temperatures and wetting action * Heat application at the joint, balanced by thermal mass * Problems discussed concerning: Cold solder joiint, vibration, improper temperature, and excessive tinning.
