Dietary considerations for patients with burns, surgical interventions, diabetes mellitus, and cancer are described, including use of dietary supplements, total parenteral nutrition (TPN), and peripheral parenteral nutrition (PPN). Specific principles of diet therapy for the obstetrical and pediatric patient populations are discussed. The role of the practical nurse in diet therapy and nutritional patient education is stressed.
