Institution:
Washington University in St Louis
Subject:
Description:
This class examines and utilizes the letter form as visual image, as symbol, and in its conventional role as language. Students investigate the ubiquitous presence of the typographic form in our visual landscape and learn to use it as a compositional tool. They question the boundary between 'reading' language and 'reading' image by looking at historical examples and through their own studio practice. A variety of media and processes is explored.
