Description:
A study of Irish-American musical life, this course will examine folk song, popular song, and dance tunes in the context of the Irish-American experiance. In particular, will consider the origins of Irish-American music in Ireland the two-way traffic in traditional music between Ireland and the Irish in America (and how American musiciams helped in preserving traditional music in Ireland), the image of the Irish in popular music, the religious music of the Irish, and the contribution of the Irish to American music. Frequent listening but no knowledge of musical theory is required.
