Description:
This one semester course will enable medical coding students, through lecture and computer laboratory, to acquire necessary knowledge of the health insurance industry. Health insurance programs including Health Maintenance Organizations, Medicare, Medicaid, PPO's and Private Insurance Companies will be discussed. Students will be introduced to medical coding and its application to health insurance billing and reimbursement. Third-party terminology will be discussed. Students will learn to complete insurance claim forms both manually and electronically through the use of medical coding software in order to receive prompt and accurate reimbursement. Follow up to claim submission and rejections from insurance carriers will be discussed. Lecture: 2 hours Laboratory: 2 hours
