This course is an introduction to critical thinking about open questions (those with no single correct solution) and to effective problem solving techniques of closed problems (those with a single correct answer). Students learn to evaluate and to construct arguments by applying principles of sound informal logic. In addition, students complete exercises in solving various types of closed problems: verbal reasoning problems, mathematics word problems, analogies, etc. A researched paper is required.
