This course is designed to introduce students to the field of special needs education. It examines ways of identifying characteristics of behavioral, social and learning needs of children from bith to fourteen years of age so that effective interventions and services may be utilized. Topics will include planning and program development in inclusive settings, working with the Individual Education Plan (IEP), modifying the environment, examining relevant state and federal laws, and working with families and community resources. Prerquisite: Preparing for College Reading II (ENGL092) or waiver by placement testing results, or Departmental Approval
