Description:

This course is a survey of the major trends of photography as art, communication and commerce. Students look at the evolution of the medium's rich pictorial history, with an emphasis on the 20th century to the present day. Students develop an appreciation for the relationship of photography to the other fine arts, the graphic arts and industry. In examining the influence of personalities, aesthetic movements, innovations of technique and process, and the social impact of photography within the context of art and culture, students are encouraged to gain perspective in developing their own artistic technique.
