A beginning level course open to all instrumentalists and vocalists. This course serves as a stepping stone to the GCC Jazz Ensemble or other intermediate jazz groups. The class combines theoretical study and applied practice as means to explore harmony, rhythm, modes, scales, and the subtleties of musical conversation. One or two small jazz combos develop from within the class and provide the context for group practice. (Offered: Every Fall, Every Spring) Prereq: MUS 103 or permission of instructor; basic music reading skills; basic instrumental proficiency
