This course examines the evolution of the party system in the US and roles political parties play in contemporary American politics. Considerable attention will be given to party realignments, third party movements and advancements, party infighting, and bipartisan cooperation. This question of party decline and alternative institutions of interest articulation will be addressed in this course.
