ETHN 260 - Carib Identity and Migration

Institution:
Albion College
Subject:
Ethnic Studies
Description:
Caribbean people are one of the fastest growing populations in the U.S. today. Many would argue that they have reinvig- orated the nation; others believe they have become a social problem. Who are they? Why do they migrate? How long do they stay? And what economic, cultural, social conditions do they experience while in the U.S. that allows them to persist? Using music, film, literature & history, the course will examine the cultural richness & diversity of the Caribbean Diaspora with an emphasis on Spanish-speaking islands, including Cuba, Dominican Republic & Puerto Rico.
