This course utilizes the conceptual framework and key concepts used throughout the curriculum. Part I of the Nursing Across the Life Span series examines the delivery of health care to the mother and the developing person from conception to adolescence who are experiencing complex problems and complications in these maturation developments. Family development and relationships in each developmental stage are studied in relation to the implicatons for nursing. Acute and chronic alternations in health, as well as health promotion strategies are discussed. The student uses a family centered approach in providing health promotion, health maintenance and health education for the developing family. The course provides opportunities for the student to practice in a variety of settings such as birthing centers, prenatal clinics, child health clinics, and various screening clinincs as well as in the traditional hospital units.
