Description:
The foundation of this course is preventive maintenance and inspection of trucks and heavy equipment. Students will study the service and preventive maintenance practices commonly found in the trucking industry as well as heavy equipment. Students will understand the benefits of a well- planned preventive maintenance program. Upon completion of this course students should be able to do a pre-trip inspection, describe the criteria for deadlining or out-of- service tagging a vehicle. Students will have a basic understanding of inspector qualifications and record keeping requirements. Students will select the correct lubricants and tools to service a vehicle or piece of equipment. Safety and care and use of hand and shop tools to perform preventive maintenance, as well as handling hazardous materials will be taught in this and all courses. Detailed preventive maintenance of each system is covered in the individual courses of this program.
