CHEM 355 - Organic Chemistry

Institution:
BridgeValley Community and Technical College
Subject:
Chemistry
Description:
CHEM-116 or CHEM-112 with departmental permission. A mechanistic approach to organic reactions using current theories of carbocations, carbanions, free-radicals, and methylenes as they relate to aliphtic and aromatic hydrocarbons. Steric, inductive and resonance effects are considered. Valence-bond and molecular orbital theories are used to predict properties and reactions. Hydrocarbons and alkyl halides are studied in depth. Laboratory syntheses and characterization of typical organic substances using modern instrumentation.
