Description:
Examines the unique ecosystems of coastal Louisiana including forested wetlands, swamps, and marshes. Studies interactions of the Mississippi and Atchafalaya Rivers with the coastal regions of the Gulf of Mexico and the adjacent continental shelf, human and environmental impacts on the region, processes influencing coastal change, and biodiversity. The course will also compare local ecosystem dyanamics with similar ecosystems. Louisiana coastal wetland preservation, restoration, and rebuilding will be emphasized.
