Prerequisite: ITIS 1000 or ITIS 1005 or permission of instructor This course provides students with an overview of the Linux operating system through use of one of its available graphical user interfaces. Topics include: installing Linux on the desktop, file system structure and management using a graphical user interface, customizing the Linux desktop, managing hardware devices, using e-mail and the World Wide Web, using office productivity packages, working with graphics and music applications, downloading and installing software, cooperating with Windows hard drives, backing up and restoring data, and working with system tools. (1.5 contact hours: .50 lecture, 1.0 lab)
