Description:
Students will learn the fundmentals of sailing (rigging, getting underway, points of sail, wind direction, landing the craft, racing techniques, rules of sailing and safety) and canoeing (basic strokes, maneuvering in various situations, rescue skills, terminology and safety) in order to participate in sailing and canoeing as recreational activities. Students will be required to swim 400 yards, tread water for 10 minutes and survival float for 10 minutes at the beginning of the semester. Prerequisite: students must have completed PHED 1510 or 1520 or 1530, or hold a current Lifeguard Training certificate. 0-2-1.
