The major emphasis of the course is deductive reasoning. It includes recognizing arguments, symbolizing and checking the validity of arguments, use of truth tables, modified truth tables, rules of inference, proposition and predicate logic, fallacies, categorical propositions, categorical syllogisms, symbolic logic, methods of deduction, set theory, and probability theory. Prerequisites: MATH 1111, 1113 or 1101. 3-0-3.
