Strongly recommended: READ 099 if required by reading placement exam or if required by reading level. A course covering the most common sexually transmitted diseases (STD's) with emphasis on the complex biological, sociological, and psychological aspects of the AIDS epidemic. Topics include history of the infections, agent(s), current medical knowledge, transmission, risk reduction, and societal responses. Common myths and misunderstandings will be identified to distinguish them from accepted scientific information. Selected topics will be presented by guest speakers. 54 lecture hours.
