The various conflicts that have wracked the Middle East over the last two centuries are examined. The specifics of each conflict are considered, as well as the larger factors that have helped lay the groundwork for them. Among the latter are the historical relationships between the Middle East and the "West," which in many respects had been characterized by the latter's political and economic domination of the former. Course Information: This course fulfills an Engaged Citizenship Common Experience requirement at UIS in the areas of Global Awareness or ECCE Elective.
