The course is a survey of French involvement in the historical development of the new world. It covers the French participation and influence in the life of its old colonies: Canada, Haiti, and Louisiana, etc.; the French heritage in terms of ideas, religion, folklore; languages such as the Patois, the Creole, the "Jawal", etc.; and French influence and culture in South America. The course also explores the contributions of important French families to American culture. It may be used as an elective in both French and history curricula.Prerequisites: Twelve (12) semester hours of French.Credit, three hours.
