Description:
The course provides an overview of theories and practices related to reading from kindergarten through grade 8. It is designed to assist the prospective teacher in understanding the developmental process of learning to read and to assist in understanding the components of reading instruction. Students will be expected to apply these understandings in an intensive public school experience in which they observe and teach reading under the supervision of a cooperating teacher and a practicum supervisor. The course is required in the Primary (K-4) and Middle Level (5-8) Education Programs. Admission to the Teacher Education Program is required. Early field experience is required (20 hours).Prerequisites: EDUC 204, EDUC 205, EDUC 313, EDUC 340 (if applicable).Credit, three hours.
