Background in the nature of language and linguistic changes as a basis for describing and comparing language systems: focuses on a description of the phonological, morphological and syntactic features of English in contrast to features of other languages. (Note: Doctoral students in Speech and Hearing may enroll in ENGL 5320, 5321, 5322 and 5323 for doctoral credit as ENGL 6320, 6321, 6322 and 6323, provided they complete additional requirements appropriate to the doctoral level of study.)
