Prerequisite: SPED 509 with a minimum grade of B This course will cover the areas of research diagnosis and instructional alternatives for students who need special education reading instruction. Participants will explore a variety of diagnostic tools as well as specific direct instruction models/programs utilized in special education. Skills in the area of explicit teaching approaches will be analyzed as they apply to the reading in the literacy/language arts class as well as to reading in content areas. A field-based experience allows students to incorporate new information into practical application.
