Prerequisite: Matriculation in graduate program in psychology or counseling; or consent of instructor This course will prepare the clinician for practicum/internship training by considering the following: 1) historical overview of the profession; 2) multidimensional identity and roles of the mental health professional; 3) practice issues and issues related to federal and state legislation dealing with, for example, duty to warn, confidentiality and mandated reporting: 4) the variety of clinical settings and mental health delivery systems, including principles, theories and techniques of evaluation and management; 5) ethical and legal standards of psychological professional organizations: 6) experimental learning and the use of supervision; 7) report writing and note-keeping for clinicians; 8) self-evaluation.
