Prerequisite: Matriculation in the MAT in Music or consent of either instructor or department chairperson This course examines and analyzes philosophical, historical, sociological and psychological issues affecting the teaching and learning of music in school settings. Emphasis will be placed upon a scholarly investigation of critical issues related to the music education profession. Students will also be expected to determine the purposes and functions of music in American schools in relation to efficient and effective planning of curriculum and instruction. Massachusetts Frameworks and the National Standards will be incorporated into these topics.
