Prerequisite: CRJU 500, which may be taken concurrently This course provides an overview of the sociology of law. Topics covered include the sources and development of law, different philosophical and sociological approaches to law, the roles of criminal justice agencies, alternate dispute resolution, the relations of between law and social change, and the impact of race, class and gender in the legal system. The course will also examine attempts to develop a general theory of law and society.
