Description:
Civil Engineering projects require knowledge of many materials; this course introduces properties and testing of some of the most common including: Portland cement concrete, aggregates, cement admixtures, bituminous materials, and ferrous metals. Additional topics include: design and proportioning of concrete mixes; placing and curing of concrete; and deformation measurement of materials under stress. Students will learn seven concrete sampling techniques required by American Concrete Institute and may elect to take the test for Concrete Field Testing Technician near the end of the semester. This is a writing emphasis course. Prerequisite- Corequisite Corequisite: CIV 219 Strength of Materials.
