This course introduces students to descriptive statistics, fundamentals of probability, probability distributions, and methods of statistical inference. Topics include correlation, regression, Bayes theorem, estimation, hypothesis testing, nonparametric methods, and categorical data analysis. A required 2 hour lab practicum will enable students to apply statistical concepts and analytical methods to data from a wide range of biology-related fields, such as ecology, evolution, environmental science, psychology, biotechnology, and biomedical sciences. The use of statistical software is required and data interpretation is emphasized.
