Critically examines major theories, research, and debates in the field of urban sociology, including social ecology, Marxist, subcultural, and postmodernist perspectives. Course materials will be framed within two main themes; the dynamics of cooperation and conflict under urban conditions, and the tension between private interests and public life in urban settings. Methodological emphasis will be on case studies, ethnographic, and social historical analysis. Prerequisite: Classified graduate status. Graded: Graded Student. Units: 3.0
