Provides an overview of the social work profession and of social welfare systems especially in relation to marginalized populations. Also introduces a generalist perspective to social work practice with emphasis on professional development. Students are exposed to the values and ethics of social work, as well as the important ideologies that have shaped social welfare and social work. Note: Includes a 30 hour volunteer experience to aid in assessing student's appropriateness for the profession. A grade of "C" or better is required before taking SWRK 140A. Graded: Graded Student.
