Prerequisites: SPA 302 or permission of instructor. Introduction to Latina literature written by Latina women living in the U.S. The course examines issues of home and hybridity, revolution and opposition, the search for popular culture, collective and community identity, the re-evaluation of men and women’s societal roles, cross-cultural identity and language use. Themes explored include place, space and memory and their impact on ideas and identities, gender issues, and the use of literary innovation in Latina texts.
