An historical, sociological, and philosophical study of the world of the Old Testament and its effect upon the development of both Christianity and Islam. Special emphasis is placed upon recent archaeological discoveries which shed light upon the interaction of ancient Israel with surrounding cultures and its place in the context of Middle Eastern civilization.
