Description:

An advanced course in computer architecture. Topics include classical uniprocessor architecture, computer arithmetic, instruction sets, control unit design including the basics of microprogramming, I/O operations, memory hierarchies, cache and virtual memory mechanisms, instruction and arithmetic pipelines, CISC, RISC, superscalar and super pipelined architectures, parallel architectures. Prerequisites: CPSC 2800 or CPEN 2800 and CPSC 3710 with minimum grades of C or department head approval. May be registered as CPEN 4700. Credit not allowed in both CPSC 4700 and CPEN 4700. Supplementary course fee assessed.
